New Delhi
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday that the Delhi government is preparing a large scale strategy to use mist spray technology as part of its efforts to reduce air pollution in the national capital.
During an inspection of the mist sprayers currently functioning at ITO, Gupta shared that 305 mist sprayers will soon be installed across nine major pollution hotspots in the city.
According to the chief minister, mist technology is proving to be an effective method to tackle pollution, and pilot projects in certain New Delhi Municipal Council areas have already shown encouraging results.
"We are drawing up a detailed plan to ensure that every road in Delhi is covered through the mist spray system. The 35 mist sprayers installed on poles at ITO are already delivering promising outcomes," Gupta told the media after the inspection.
The misting process works by spraying fine water particles that help control dust related pollution.
Gupta also stated that a high level committee consisting of experts from several disciplines is being created to guide the government on long term pollution reduction strategies.
Officials noted that the committee, announced on Wednesday, will include senior representatives from different government departments along with experts from IITs and environmental science specialists. The group will be given special powers to support pollution control measures.
The chief minister added that departments such as PWD, DSIIDC and the DDA have been instructed to repair potholes, carpet major roads and plant greenery along road dividers and islands, while also taking up other pollution control initiatives.

Gupta encouraged citizens to report potholes on the Delhi government portal. She also appealed to resident welfare associations to distribute electric heaters to security guards during winter in order to discourage biomass burning, which increases air pollution.
