New Delhi
The national capital will get three new Metro corridors by the end of this year, Delhi Metro Managing Director Vikas Kumar said on Friday.
The three new Metro corridors are Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg extension of the Magenta Line, Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor and Majlis Park-Maujpur extension of the Pink Line.
In an interview with PTI, the DMRC chief said that these new corridors are part of Phase 4, which will be commissioned by December.
Kumar said three additional corridors under Phase 4 have also received approval recently, expanding the scale of the project further.
He said of these newly sanctioned corridors under Phase 4, which include the Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor, the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor and the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur extension, are expected to be completed around 2029 depending on approvals, land acquisition and construction progress.
On the proposed Phase 5 expansion, Kumar said DMRC has already fixed a target of 2028 for RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to IGD Airport T-1 and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj as part of Delhi Metro's Phase 5(A).
He added that the detailed project report (DPR) for seven more corridors -- Dhansa bus stand to Nangloi, Central Secretariat to Kishangarh, Samaypur Badli to Narela DDA sports complex, Kirti Nagar to Palam, Jor Bagh to Mithapur, Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Shastri park and Keshav Puram to Rohini Sector 34 under Phase 5B has been prepared and submitted to the Centre.
Kumar said the proposed Phase 5B network is expected to include around seven corridors covering nearly 97.158 kilometres within Delhi.
"It is a big project and it is mostly covering areas which have not been touched so far. Some alternative routes and multiple interchanges are also being planned," he said.
However, he clarified that the proposal is still at the planning stage and the final alignments and corridors will depend on approvals from the government.
The DMRC chief said the expansion plans are aimed at improving connectivity in underserved areas, strengthening interchange facilities and reducing congestion and travel time for commuters across Delhi-NCR.
The Phase 4 project, originally approved by the Union Cabinet in 2019, covers key corridors aimed at improving connectivity in outer Delhi and densely populated areas that currently lack Metro access.
Under Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro expansion project, two stretches have already been completed and opened for commuters. These include the Janakpuri West–Krishna Park Extension section of the Magenta Line, which became operational in January 2025, and the Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor of the Pink Line, which was opened in March 2026.
Another section connecting Majlis Park and Deepali Chowk on the Magenta Line has also been completed as part of the ongoing expansion works.
DMRC is now targeting completion of the remaining priority Phase 4 corridors by December this year. These include the Krishna Park Extension–RK Ashram Marg section of the Magenta Line and the Tughlakabad–Delhi Aerocity corridor of the Golden Line.

The Krishna Park Extension–RK Ashram Marg stretch is expected to significantly improve east-west connectivity across Delhi, while the Golden Line corridor will strengthen connectivity between south Delhi, the airport region and other key urban centres.
Apart from these, work is also underway on the Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor and the Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block extension, though these are expected to be completed in 2029.
