A 62-year-old woman, Malti Devi, was found dead inside her home in Sikatra village on Thursday. Villagers claimed jewellery was missing, raising suspicion of foul play, but police said no injury marks were visible. Devi, who lived alone after her husband’s death 12 years ago, was discovered around 8 am by neighbours. Police conducted a preliminary inspection and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.

Local authorities have started questioning nearby residents and neighbours to piece together Devi’s last movements and interactions. The villagers expressed concern over safety in the area, particularly for elderly residents living alone, and urged police to conduct a thorough probe.

Police said that while there were initial reports of missing jewellery, it has not been confirmed whether she was wearing any at the time of her death. They are also reviewing whether any signs of forced entry or suspicious activity occurred, and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
