Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) on Saturday assured that India’s fuel supply remains stable, dismissing concerns of shortages amid global tensions.

In a statement, the company said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG, and that fuel stations across the country are operating normally. It added that refineries are running at full capacity, with strong reserves and secured future supplies ensuring uninterrupted availability.

Addressing reports of panic buying, HPCL attributed the rush at fuel stations to misinformation. It urged citizens to rely only on official updates and avoid unnecessary stockpiling.

The company also highlighted the strength of India’s energy ecosystem, noting that its refining network is functioning smoothly, crude oil supplies from global sources remain steady, and both domestic production and imports are sufficient to meet demand.

Clarifying concerns around gas availability, HPCL said the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure is part of a long-term clean energy transition and not linked to any shortage of LPG.

The reassurance comes against the backdrop of the ongoing West Asia conflict, which has disrupted global energy markets and raised concerns over supply chains. A key flashpoint remains the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil supply passes.

India had earlier sourced around 12–15 per cent of its crude imports via this route, making stability in the region crucial for energy security.
