German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Monday visited the historic Adalaj Ni Vav, a renowned stepwell located near Gandhinagar in Gujarat, a state government official said.
The Chancellor was accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and members of his delegation during the visit to the monument in Adalaj village.
Constructed in 1498, the five-storey stepwell is noted for its elaborate stone carvings and architectural detail.
Following the visit, Merz attended a private engagement at The House of MG, a heritage property situated in Ahmedabad’s Lal Darwaja area, the official added.

Chancellor Merz is currently on his first official visit to India.
