Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday extended greetings on the occasion of Poila Boishakh and urged people to give a democratic reply to attempts by the “zamindars in Delhi” to snatch away voting rights.

In a post on X, the Mamata Banerjee expressed hope that the Bengali New Year would make people’s lives “free of blemishes”.

She also highlighted West Bengal’s cultural legacy and said the state stands as a symbol of communal harmony.

The chief minister alleged that some “malevolent forces” were trying to damage this harmony, and accused “Delhi’s zamindars” of attempting to usurp people’s voting rights.

“Remember, we must give a befitting reply to them democratically,” she said.

Calling for unity, Banerjee urged people to break the “walls of narrow-mindedness” and remain united against divisive and authoritarian forces.
