Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls has been conducted by every government, but becomes objectionable for the opposition only when it loses an election.
“This is not the first time an SIR is being carried out in the country,” the BJP leader told reporters here.
Questioning the opposition’s criticism, Scindia asked whether they had objections to the cleansing of voter lists or to a proper voting process.
“Are they afraid of losing?” he asked.
Scindia said the opposition’s stand on SIR changes with electoral outcomes.

“Wherever they win, SIR is very good. Where they lose, it becomes bad,” he said, adding that in a democracy, the people’s mandate is paramount for everyone.
