Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday stressed that construction and housing designs should be aligned with the purchasing capacity of citizens, underlining that India’s most urgent requirement today is affordable, low-cost housing.
Addressing a gathering at the ‘Design Showcase and Confluence 3.0’, organised by the Indian Institute of Interior Designers in Nagpur, Gadkari said the real estate sector is among the fastest-growing industries in the country and a major source of employment generation.
He noted that the sector also contributes significantly to both state and central revenues through Goods and Services Tax collections.
The minister urged stakeholders to focus on innovation, research and modern design practices, while simultaneously exploring ways to bring down construction and production costs to make housing more accessible.
