The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, chaired by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, on Tuesday adopted a resolution praising the successful conduct of the fourth edition of the India AI Impact Summit, held in the national capital from February 16 to 20.

In a press release issued after its meeting on February 24, the committee termed the summit a “grand success” and said it was organised under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The panel noted that the event culminated in a diplomatic declaration, with participation from representatives of 91 countries and major global companies pledging support for inclusive and responsible development of artificial intelligence.

According to the committee, corporate announcements at the summit included proposed investments exceeding USD 200 billion in India’s AI ecosystem. It also highlighted commitments by Google to set up a large data centre in India and establish a direct subsea cable link between India and the United States.

“The Committee places on record its appreciation for the successful organisation of the India AI Impact Summit by the Ministry of Electronics and IT under the able leadership of the Prime Minister,” the statement said.

At the same time, the panel condemned an “unfortunate incident” that took place at the summit venue on February 20.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court granted four days’ police custody of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib in connection with a protest at Bharat Mandapam during the summit.

Police officials alleged that Chib was the main conspirator behind an unlawful assembly at the venue, during which anti-national slogans were raised and an attempt was made to create a riot-like situation. They further claimed that, along with co-accused, he obstructed and assaulted police personnel on duty and did not cooperate during interrogation.

Chib was arrested earlier in the day and booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 196, which relates to promoting enmity between groups and is a non-bailable offence. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further custody is required for detailed questioning.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 marked the first time the event was hosted in the Global South and brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and civil society representatives to discuss responsible AI governance and inclusive technological growth.
