S. Jaishankar on Thursday called on BRICS member nations to pursue practical and coordinated cooperation to address mounting global challenges arising from geopolitical conflicts, economic instability and disruptions in international trade.
Speaking at the opening session of the BRICS foreign ministers’ conclave in New Delhi, the Indian minister said the international system was passing through a period of significant uncertainty, marked by ongoing conflicts, economic pressures, and emerging challenges in trade, technology and climate policy.
The two-day gathering has drawn participation from representatives of member countries including Iran, Russia and Brazil, among others, and comes at a time of heightened concerns over the economic fallout of the West Asia crisis and disruptions in global energy supplies.
Jaishankar said emerging economies and developing nations increasingly look towards BRICS to play a constructive and stabilising role in navigating global uncertainty.
He said the forum provides an important opportunity for member nations to assess regional and international developments while identifying practical avenues for deeper collaboration.
Highlighting development priorities, the minister noted that many countries continue to grapple with challenges related to energy, food, fertiliser and healthcare security, along with limited access to finance.
He said BRICS can contribute meaningfully by helping vulnerable economies build stronger resilience, stressing that dependable supply chains and diversified markets are essential to long-term economic stability.
