India’s Ambassador to Estonia, Ashish Sinha, has underlined New Delhi’s growing importance in global diplomacy, particularly in relation to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, noting that India is widely regarded as a country capable of contributing to a peaceful resolution.
Speaking about Estonia’s perspective, Ambassador Sinha said that as a Baltic nation located close to the conflict zone, Estonia closely follows India’s diplomatic engagement. He noted that India is viewed as a major global player with the ability to positively influence peace efforts in the region.
“Estonia is a Baltic country, and they see India as a significant nation that can help shape a peaceful outcome to the Russia-Ukraine crisis,” Sinha remarked.
He pointed out that India maintains strong diplomatic ties with both Russia and Ukraine, relationships that were further reinforced through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to both countries last year. These engagements, he said, place India in a unique position to encourage dialogue and de-escalation.
According to the Ambassador, India’s approach is centred on leveraging its political goodwill and longstanding relationships to push for meaningful discussions and an early ceasefire. “We have strong engagements with both sides, and that allows us to use our influence constructively in the direction of peace,” he said.
Sinha’s comments reflect India’s expanding diplomatic footprint and its effort to play a stabilising role at a time of heightened global tensions. As international attention remains fixed on the conflict, India continues to project itself as a responsible actor committed to dialogue and peaceful solutions.
Beyond geopolitics, the Indian envoy also outlined a forward-looking roadmap for deepening India-Estonia relations. He highlighted opportunities for collaboration in digital innovation, academic exchanges, and the expansion of trade in technology-driven sectors.
“My role is to strengthen India-Estonia relations, including in multilateral platforms,” Sinha said, adding that the bilateral relationship already rests on a strong foundation and holds considerable potential for future growth.
While noting the difference in size between the two countries, Sinha emphasised Estonia’s strengths in digital governance and public service delivery. He said India’s own achievements in digital transformation create scope for mutual learning and business partnerships.

“There are areas where India can offer expertise to Estonia, and there are equally areas where Estonian companies can collaborate with Indian firms,” he said, underscoring the complementary nature of the relationship.
