S. Jaishankar on Saturday said that the rise of India is “unstoppable” and that the country itself will determine the course of its growth based on its own strengths.
Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, the External Affairs Minister said the trajectory of a country’s rise is ultimately decided by that country itself.
“When we speak today about the rise of countries, the rise of countries is determined by the countries. The rise of India will be determined by India,” he said during an interactive session.
“It will be determined by our strength, not by the mistakes of others,” Jaishankar added, without naming any specific country.
His remarks came two days after Christopher Landau, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States, said Washington would not repeat the mistake of giving India the same type of economic advantages it once provided to China that helped Beijing emerge as a major competitor.
Jaishankar also highlighted India’s strategic importance in the Indian Ocean region.

“Those who work with us obviously will get more benefits. I’m not saying there are no challenges to India’s rise; there are. But the direction of India’s rise is very clear. In a way, it’s unstoppable,” he said.
