Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore is weighing a proposal to penalise affiliated colleges that fail to maintain sufficient greenery on their campuses, a senior university official said on Monday.
The Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department has consistently stressed the importance of green campuses and has issued regular guidelines on tree plantation, Sachin Sharma, Director of the university’s College Development Council, told PTI.
“To ensure these directives are followed in letter and spirit, the university is considering imposing fines on institutions where adequate green cover is missing. There is also a proposal to make greenery a mandatory requirement for colleges seeking to retain affiliation with the university,” Sharma said.
He added that the proposals would be placed before the university’s executive council and would be implemented only after receiving its approval.
