Internal security, anti-Naxal operations, counter-terrorism, cyber security, drug control and border management are expected to dominate the agenda at the all-India Directors General and Inspectors General of Police (DGP–IGP) Conference to be held in Raipur from November 28 to 30.

This is the first time the high-level security conference is being organised in Chhattisgarh’s capital, where top police officials from across the country will gather at the new Marine Drive complex in New Raipur.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the 60th edition of the annual conference, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the valedictory session.

Officials said the meeting will place special emphasis on Left-Wing Extremism, especially in Naxal-affected regions. Joint strategies undertaken by state police and central security forces in Bastar, which have yielded significant breakthroughs in recent months, will be reviewed and expanded.

The conference will also witness wide-ranging deliberations on operational challenges, law-and-order management, welfare and infrastructure issues, and the formulation of standardised best practices for crime control and internal security.

This will be PM Modi’s second visit to Chhattisgarh this month, following his participation in the State Foundation Day celebrations on November 1. Officials, however, indicated that the PM’s schedule may be altered if needed.

The Prime Minister has shown continued personal involvement in the DGP–IGP Conference since 2014, encouraging the event to be hosted across the country rather than being confined to the national capital. In recent years, the conference has been held at Guwahati, Rann of Kutch, Hyderabad, Tekanpur, Statue of Unity, Pune, Lucknow, New Delhi and Jaipur.
