A senior police officer on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in the border districts of Kathua and Samba in Jammu and Kashmir, directing officials to enhance vigilance and deploy additional forces in sensitive areas, officials said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu–Samba–Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, accompanied by SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma and SSP Samba Varinder Manhas, assessed security arrangements in Billawar, Kathua, following a recent encounter in Udhampur’s Soan area that left a policeman dead. Sharma also visited Kamla Top in Billawar as part of the review.
He emphasised maintaining peace, strengthening coordination among security agencies, and enhancing intelligence gathering and timely information sharing to counter potential threats. The DIG directed additional forces to be stationed in vulnerable areas and instructed officers to intensify patrolling and maintain high visibility.

SSP Kathua briefed Sharma on prevailing law and order measures. During the visit, the DIG also held a joint meeting with Army officials to review coordination and preparedness, officials said.
