A massive fire erupted in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar late Thursday night, damaging several residential houses, officials said.

The blaze spread rapidly due to the dense settlement in the locality. However, teams from the Fire and Emergency Services managed to bring the situation under control after sustained firefighting efforts.

Visuals released by the Srinagar Fire and Emergency Department showed multiple houses partially gutted, with thick plumes of smoke rising from the area.

Officials said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. No casualties or serious injuries have been reported so far, and an assessment of the losses is currently underway.
