External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has highlighted the growing uncertainties arising from the conflict in West Asia, calling for stronger and more resilient global trade corridors and supply chains during the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in France.

Speaking at the session with invited partners, Jaishankar emphasised that ongoing geopolitical tensions have reinforced the need to build robust and diversified supply chains to ensure global economic stability.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the minister held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit with counterparts from France, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany, and Ukraine.

According to Jaiswal, discussions focused on both bilateral relations and the evolving situation in West Asia.

During the first session, Jaishankar underscored the urgency of reforms in global governance institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council, along with the need to streamline peacekeeping operations and strengthen humanitarian supply chains.

He also raised concerns of the Global South, especially regarding challenges related to energy security, fertiliser availability, and food supplies—issues that have been exacerbated by ongoing conflicts.

In the second session, Jaishankar stressed that disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions make it imperative to develop resilient trade routes. Referring to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), he noted that India’s free trade agreements with the European Union, EFTA members, and the United Kingdom have further enhanced the initiative’s potential.

“The uncertainties arising from the conflicts in West Asia only make a stronger case for more resilient trade corridors and supply chains,” Jaishankar said in a post, adding that there is significant global support for advancing connectivity initiatives like IMEC.
