Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with Chief Ministers via video conferencing to review preparedness and response strategies in light of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The meeting focused on assessing the readiness of states and ensuring coordinated planning to deal with any potential fallout, particularly disruptions in energy supplies.

Chief Ministers from poll-bound states did not participate in the meeting due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

The Centre has stepped up consultations in recent days, having already convened an all-party meeting earlier this week. The Prime Minister also addressed the crisis in both Houses of Parliament, underlining the government’s proactive approach.

The conflict, involving Israel, the United States, and Iran, began on February 28 and has raised concerns globally due to its impact on energy supply chains.

Amid these developments, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reassured citizens that the country’s petroleum and LPG supplies remain stable and fully secure. The ministry has emphasised that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in India and that all retail fuel outlets are adequately stocked.

It also cautioned the public against misinformation, describing reports of shortages as part of a “deliberately mischievous, coordinated campaign” aimed at creating unnecessary panic.

On the diplomatic front, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is maintaining close coordination with relevant countries to ensure the safe transit of its energy shipments, including through critical routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

He confirmed that four LPG-laden ships have already reached India safely after crossing the strait, highlighting the effectiveness of these efforts.

Jaiswal reiterated that India’s energy strategy is guided by the needs of its 1.4 billion population, global market dynamics, and the evolving geopolitical situation, ensuring that supplies remain uninterrupted despite external challenges.
