The East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday imposed prohibitory orders across several parts of Jamshedpur amid fears of fresh protests over the killing of a local Karni Sena leader who was allegedly attacked after objecting to an incident of eve-teasing.

The restrictions come after widespread unrest erupted in the steel city following the death of 28-year-old Himanshu Singh, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent altercation outside a bar in the Bistupur area. His friend, who was also stabbed in the incident, continues to remain in critical condition at a local hospital.

According to police, the violence began on Saturday night when Singh and his companion confronted a group of men over alleged eve-teasing at the bar, triggering a confrontation. Although police personnel intervened and placed the two men inside a patrol vehicle, the accused allegedly pulled them out before attacking them with knives.

Singh's family has refused to perform his last rites, demanding the immediate arrest of all those involved and action against the police personnel who were present when the attack took place. On Monday night, the family gave the administration a 48-hour deadline to meet their demands.

With the deadline ending on Wednesday, Dhalbhum Sub-Divisional Officer Arnav Mishra imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the jurisdictions of Sakchi, Bistupur, Sonari, Kadma, Mango and MGM police stations.

In the official order, the administration stated that intelligence inputs suggested the possibility of road blockades and demonstrations that could disrupt public order and peace. The restrictions will remain in force until further orders.

The city had witnessed large-scale protests on Monday night, when an angry crowd, including members of Singh's family, blocked roads in Bistupur for nearly six hours, severely affecting traffic movement.

Meanwhile, late on Tuesday night, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered the removal of East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey and Seraikela-Kharswan Superintendent of Police Nidhi Dwivedi, citing their failure to curb rising criminal activities in the region.
