A mosque in Delhi’s Gokalpuri that was burnt down in Delhi’s worst ever riots in recent years were handed over to the local community after extensive repairs and renovation undertaken by the Jamiat-i-Ulama-e Hind.

Called Jannati Mosque, it’s the second mosque to be rebuilt after the riots. Besides, the Jamiat has also repaired the four walls, the water tank, and the guard room of the Jyoti Nagar cemetery destroyed by miscreants in the riots.

According to a release of the Jamiat-i-Ulama Hind, it has recently handed over 30 newly constructed and repaired houses in Bhagirati Vihara and Krawal Nagar to the riots victims. In all the Jamiat has managed to repair 55 houses and two mosques burnt down in the riots.

The organization has also arranged for legal help to many Muslims who were arrested for involvement in the riots. So far, the group of lawyers arranged by the Jamiat has managed to get bail for 56 accused.

Maulana Arshad Madani asked the government to punish the real culprits behind the riots and not indulge in witch-hunting. Speaking on the occasion of handing over of the mosque, he said riots actually damage the country; its dignity and credibility.

He said Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind not only rehabilitated the victims of riots but also helped many to restart their livelihood by extending financial help to them.
