Kaziranga
Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has seen a notable surge in tourist footfall, even as Assam prepares for its upcoming Assembly elections.
The renowned wildlife sanctuary, famous for housing the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, continues to draw visitors from across India. Tourists have been flocking to the park to experience its rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes.
Many visitors expressed excitement after spotting rhinos in their natural habitat. Popular activities such as elephant and jeep safaris have added to the appeal, offering tourists an immersive wildlife experience within the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Harshal, a visitor from Maharashtra, shared his enthusiasm, saying it was his first visit and that he had already spotted a rhino during an elephant safari, while hoping to catch a glimpse of a tiger as well. Another tourist, Jahnavi, also from Maharashtra, described the experience as enjoyable, highlighting both the safari and the pleasant weather.
Despite the ongoing election atmosphere, local guide Apurba Gogoi noted that tourism remains unaffected. He said that election activities and tourist arrivals are proceeding simultaneously without disruption.
Visitors from within Assam also echoed similar sentiments. Mintu from Guwahati said he planned to visit Orchid Park and would also participate in voting on April 9, expressing hope for a peaceful election. Others, like Ratan Debnath and Abdul Kadir from Lakhimpur, emphasized that tourism and civic duties go hand in hand, with plans to enjoy the park and cast their votes.
