Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday lauded voters for their enthusiastic participation as polling for the state assembly elections concluded peacefully.

In a message shared on Facebook, Vijayan expressed gratitude to the electorate for turning out in large numbers despite challenging conditions, including intense summer heat and adverse weather.

He noted that the election campaign period was relatively short this time, but praised political workers for their dedication and tireless efforts. The Chief Minister highlighted that strong voter turnout reflected Kerala’s deep-rooted democratic values and civic commitment.

Vijayan also commended the coordinated efforts of election officials, security personnel, health workers, and volunteers who ensured the smooth and incident-free conduct of polling across the state.

Describing the peaceful completion of the electoral process as a “great achievement,” he acknowledged the role of the Election Commission of India, along with police and central forces, in maintaining order and facilitating voting.

Reiterating Kerala’s democratic spirit, Vijayan called for collective progress, urging citizens to move forward together toward building a “New Kerala.”

  • Polling was held for all 140 seats of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
  • Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
  • Vijayan is contesting from the Dharmadam constituency, considered a stronghold of the Left.
  • The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) is aiming for a historic third consecutive term.
  • The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are mounting strong challenges.

The election outcome is expected to be closely watched, as all major alliances are aiming to cross the majority mark of 71 seats in the assembly.
