The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday congratulated the India national cricket team for winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis moved a motion in the House praising the team for its performance and said the victory reflected the players’ discipline, teamwork and confidence.
India defeated New Zealand national cricket team in the final on Sunday to clinch the title.
“We could see teamwork, discipline and confidence in our Indian team. Sanju Samson, who entered the team at the last moment, dominated the entire tournament. I congratulate the team for its victory,” Fadnavis said.
He noted that India has now become the only team to win the T20 World Cup three times and the first to defend the title successfully.
Fadnavis also praised cricketer Ishan Kishan for showing determination despite personal loss.
“I congratulate Ishan Kishan, who lost a close relative in an accident just a day before the final match, but he did not lose his focus. I extend my special congratulations to him,” he said.
The chief minister also congratulated captain Suryakumar Yadav, who hails from Mumbai, and head coach Gautam Gambhir for guiding the team to victory.
Speaker Rahul Narwekar said the House would send a formal congratulatory message to the team on behalf of the Assembly.
