Major fire at NDMC godown near Safdarjung flyover; no casualties reported

New Delhi

A major fire broke out at an NDMC godown near the Safdarjung flyover here on Friday evening, prompting authorities to deploy 20 fire tenders to the spot, officials said.

According to the police, information about the blaze was received around 6 pm from a local resident, following which police personnel rushed to the site near Prachin Shiv Mandir.

“Immediately upon receiving the information, police teams reached the spot and found heavy flames at the NDMC godown. The police staff promptly and safely evacuated all persons from the fire-affected area. Due to the timely alert by the public, a major incident was averted,” a senior police officer said.

He added that no loss of life has been reported so far.

A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said the incident was reported at 6.02 pm and 20 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.

“Our teams are working at the spot. If required, additional fire tenders will be rushed,” the DFS official said.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further details are awaited.
