There are soldiers whose names become familiar through wars, and there are those whose courage is displayed in battles that the public may never see. Major Rajiv Kumar Joon, an Ashoka Chakra awardee, belongs to the latter category, a soldier whose extraordinary courage during a militant encounter in Jammu and Kashmir came at a time when the Valley was facing a difficult period of insurgency.
