Haldia
Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Trinamool Congress will form the government in West Bengal for a fourth consecutive term, asserting that people do not want the BJP in power in the state.
Addressing an election rally in Haldia in Purba Medinipur district, Banerjee also called on opposition parties across the country to unite against the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
She said the BJP would not win the current Assembly elections in West Bengal and claimed that the Trinamool Congress would once again secure a mandate. She also expressed hope that the BJP government in Delhi could be defeated politically during 2026.
The TMC chief said she had been touring the state extensively over the past month and, based on public feedback, believed voters were not inclined to support the BJP.
Responding to the BJP’s earlier “chargesheet” against her government over alleged corruption and governance failures, Banerjee said she was issuing her own political chargesheet against the BJP, accusing it of taking commissions in the Haldia Dock Complex and surrounding industrial belt.
On March 28, Amit Shah had released a chargesheet targeting the TMC government, alleging corruption, weakening law and order, and encouraging infiltration.
Banerjee also criticised Narendra Modi for reportedly saying at a recent rally that he was the BJP candidate in all 294 constituencies going to the polls in West Bengal. She remarked that such a move would require him to first step down as prime minister.
