Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) on Saturday denied social media reports claiming that parts of its refinery were being shut down due to crude supply issues, stating that its operations remain fully functional.

The clarification came after a post by OilPrice.com on X suggested that the 300,000 barrels-per-day refinery in Mangaluru, Karnataka, was shutting down some units because crude oil shipments from the Persian Gulf were delayed due to regional tensions.

Rejecting the claims, MRPL said the information circulating online was incorrect.

“We hereby clarify that MRPL denies the aforesaid rumour/tweet which is factually incorrect and confirms that MRPL is operating normally and has lined up adequate quantities of crude oil to sustain operations,” the company said in a statement.

The refinery said it continues to operate at normal capacity and has not reported any shutdown of units. It also urged the public to take note of the clarification to prevent the spread of misinformation in the market.

Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation also dismissed rumours on social media about shortages of petrol and diesel.

In a post on X, the company said India has sufficient fuel stocks and that supply and distribution networks are functioning normally.

“IndianOil is committed to maintaining uninterrupted fuel supply across the country. Citizens are requested not to panic or crowd fuel stations and to rely only on official sources for accurate information,” the company said.

Earlier, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said there was no shortage of energy supplies in India despite global geopolitical challenges.

“Our priority is to ensure availability of affordable and sustainable fuel for our citizens, and we are doing it comfortably. There is no shortage of energy in India and there is no cause for worry for our energy consumers,” the minister said.
