The month of Muharram not only marks the beginning of the lunar year for the Muslim community but also marks the month of mourning for the Shia community worldwide.

Large processions recreating the battle of Karbala are taken out worldwide.

The Shia community on Tuesday took the same in the interiors of Dal Lake, Srinagar.

The tenth day of Muharram is called Ashura. Muslims worldwide restrain from starting any new work. Functions like marriages are also postponed. Ashura falls on 28th of this month.
