Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would win the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and unseat the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government.

Speaking to reporters in Tiruchirappalli, Goyal alleged corruption and misgovernance under the government led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and said people in the state were seeking change.

“NDA is going to sweep the next election, removing the corrupt Stalin government. The people of Tamil Nadu will never accept Udhayanidhi Stalin as their chief minister,” he said.

The Union minister also alleged irregularities in the state-run liquor retail network Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) and claimed the people of Tamil Nadu were unhappy with the government over corruption and law-and-order issues.

Goyal said the NDA would form the next government in the state under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami, general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

“Our alliance is safe and secure. We discuss seat-sharing internally, and when it is finalised we will inform the media. It will be done in a friendly manner,” he said.

The minister also accused the DMK leadership of internal divisions and alleged that the party itself was uncertain about the leadership of Udhayanidhi Stalin.
