New Delhi Municipal Council on Wednesday reviewed preparations for the upcoming India-Africa Summit and allowed its employees to work from home, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation.

The review meeting was chaired virtually by NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal from his residence. Senior officials and department heads assessed civic arrangements ahead of the summit, which is expected to bring foreign delegates to the national capital.

According to officials, the civic body has planned extensive sanitation drives, enhanced lighting and beautification initiatives across the NDMC area to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for visiting dignitaries.

Chahal said night sweeping and sanitation arrangements would be intensified between May 28 and June 1, with additional deployment of sanitation workers and supervisory staff along VIP routes, key markets and major roads.

Garbage collection will be monitored through geo-tagged reporting systems, while zonal officers will supervise operations on the ground.

The NDMC will also install special decorative warm lighting at 13 major roundabouts, while nearly 10 hotels expected to host foreign delegates will receive enhanced illumination.

As part of beautification efforts, decorative potted plants, seasonal flowers and summit-themed floral displays will be placed at prominent locations, markets and entry points across the NDMC area.

Officials added that departments have been instructed to keep VIP roads free of potholes, remove encroachments and unauthorised hoardings, and ensure drains are desilted to avoid waterlogging.

Chahal further announced that creatives provided by the Ministry of External Affairs will be displayed at around 50 LED sites and nearly 100 public display units across the NDMC area beginning Wednesday.

A 24x7 control room at the Integrated Command and Control Centre will monitor all arrangements during the summit.
