Senior Congress leader V D Satheesan on Wednesday asserted that there are no differences within the United Democratic Front (UDF) regarding seat sharing for the upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, unlike rival fronts.

Satheesan said the remaining candidates of the Indian National Congress would be announced by evening, adding that the delay in releasing the list was due to “extraneous reasons” and not internal conflict.

He also claimed that the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which leads the Left Democratic Front (LDF), is currently facing more internal issues, while differences also exist within the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

On speculation over whether Congress MP K Sudhakaran would contest the assembly polls, Satheesan clarified that such decisions are taken by the party’s central leadership, not the state unit.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan reiterated his stance that sitting MPs should not contest the assembly elections and confirmed he would not be in the fray.

Reports suggesting that Sudhakaran’s aides were seeking necessary documentation to file nomination papers have fuelled speculation about his possible candidature. A recent social media post by him highlighting his connection with Kannur has further intensified such talks.
