Over 80,000 missing women and girls recovered in Maharashtra in two years: CM

 Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the state legislative assembly on Tuesday that police teams successfully traced 86,228 women and girls who were reported missing during 2024 and 2025.

According to data shared by the CM, who also oversees the Home Department, 67,458 of the 93,940 women reported missing over the past two years were safely located. Similarly, 18,770 of the 23,429 missing girls were reunited with their families during this period.

In Mumbai, police located 4,455 minors out of 4,515 missing cases. In Navi Mumbai, authorities traced 313 boys and 627 girls over the two-year duration.

Fadnavis also highlighted the impact of Operation Muskan, a special initiative aimed at rescuing missing and exploited children. Between July 2015 and December 2024, 13 phases of the operation were conducted, resulting in the rescue of more than 41,000 children. The 14th phase of the campaign is currently underway across the state from January 20 to February 20, 2026, during which 1,401 children have been rescued so far.

In Nagpur, authorities traced 3,432 women and 723 girls during the same period. Raigad district recorded a 100% recovery rate in 2024, successfully locating all 102 reported missing girls.

The state government has also set up a special Missing Persons Cell at every police station, led by a woman officer. Additionally, a senior officer of the rank of Additional Director General monitors women’s safety cases and reviews missing person reports every two months to help prevent human trafficking and related crimes.
