Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko on Saturday claimed that expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam has given an indication of joining the DMK-led alliance.
Vaiko, whose party is an ally of the ruling DMK, said this became evident following Panneerselvam’s meeting with Chief Minister M K Stalin in Chennai on February 20.
Replying to a question from reporters on whether the former chief minister would formally join the DMK alliance, Vaiko said in a lighter vein, “He joined yesterday.”
After the meeting with Stalin, Panneerselvam—who recently exited the NDA—had publicly stated that the DMK stood a strong chance of returning to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. He had also remarked that there was a prevailing public sentiment in favour of Stalin continuing as chief minister for a second term.
“Perhaps a realisation has dawned on Panneerselvam. Being a senior politician, he would naturally reflect on protecting his self-respect and political position before appreciating the Chief Minister. Through his remarks, he has conveyed a signal of aligning with the DMK combine,” Vaiko told reporters here.
The MDMK general secretary also ruled out the possibility of a coalition government in Tamil Nadu, asserting that the DMK would return to power on its own strength.
“I am fully confident that DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin will form the government again after winning the 2026 Assembly elections,” he said.

“The forthcoming elections will not pose a major challenge. The DMK will secure a majority of seats. There is absolutely no scope for a coalition government,” Vaiko added.
