PM Modi greets Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura on Statehood Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed his greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura as the three northeastern states observed their Statehood Day.

The Prime Minister wrote separate letters to the chief ministers of Tripura and Meghalaya, reiterating the Union government’s commitment to development, inclusive growth and improved connectivity across the northeastern region.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the greetings and welcomed the Centre’s renewed emphasis on peace, prosperity and infrastructure development in the region.

In a post on X, Saha said he was thankful to Prime Minister Modi for his warm wishes on Tripura’s Statehood Day and for reaffirming the Centre’s focus on inclusive development, better connectivity and overall progress in the Northeast.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also acknowledged the Prime Minister’s message and thanked the Union government for its continued support in advancing the state’s growth agenda.

He noted that he was particularly touched by the Prime Minister’s reference to the vision of the late P A Sangma, stating that the former leader’s ideals continue to guide Meghalaya’s development journey.

In a post on X, Sangma thanked the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Meghalaya for the Statehood Day wishes and expressed appreciation for the guidance and assistance extended by the Government of India and various central ministries. He added that remembering P A Sangma’s vision reflected the Centre’s respect for the state’s leadership legacy.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla also acknowledged the Prime Minister’s greetings, highlighting Modi’s emphasis on development, inclusive growth and improved opportunities for the people of the state.

In a message shared on X, Bhalla said the Prime Minister had recognised Manipur’s rich cultural heritage and resilience while reaffirming the Union government’s commitment to the state’s progress and welfare. He added that the people of Manipur were grateful for the Centre’s continued support.

Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura attained full statehood following the enactment of the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971. Under the legislation, Manipur and Tripura became states on January 21, 1972, while Meghalaya was carved out of Assam, taking into account its distinct geographical and administrative characteristics.
