Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on his birth anniversary, saying his life was dedicated to the ideals of equality, justice and education.
Modi also paid homage at Phule’s statue in the Parliament House Complex and said his ideals would continue to inspire countless people with strength and hope.
In a post on X, the prime minister described Phule as a visionary reformer and a pioneer in championing the rights of women and marginalised communities.
He said that through Phule’s efforts, education became a powerful instrument of empowerment.
Modi noted that this year marks the beginning of Phule’s 200th birth anniversary celebrations and expressed hope that his thoughts would continue to guide society in the pursuit of progress.

Phule was born on April 11, 1827, in Maharashtra and passed away on November 28, 1890.
