India’s online degree sector is expected to witness rapid expansion by 2030, driven by changing learner preferences, wider digital access and supportive regulatory policies, according to education platform TrainingsKart.
The company said the country’s online education market was valued at an estimated USD 3.6 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of around 23 per cent through 2030. This growth is expected to significantly increase the sector’s overall size in the coming years.
According to the platform, rising demand for flexible learning options, especially among working professionals pursuing higher studies alongside employment, is one of the main reasons behind the expansion. The growth of digital learning platforms has also made quality education more accessible to learners across the country.
Another key factor is increasing recognition of online degrees by regulators such as the University Grants Commission. The equivalence of approved online degrees with conventional classroom degrees has strengthened confidence among students and employers.
The platform noted strong interest in management and technology programmes, particularly in metro cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai, where professionals are seeking convenient ways to upgrade qualifications while continuing to work.
Among the most sought-after courses are Online MBA programmes, which remain popular with professionals looking for career advancement. These programmes focus on leadership, business strategy and decision-making skills valued by employers.
Online BBA courses are also gaining traction among students entering the workforce, while Online MCA and BCA programmes are seeing rising demand as India’s technology sector expands and digital skills become increasingly important.
The company said online education is attracting learners because of its flexibility, affordability and accessibility. Students can learn at their own pace, access recorded lectures, join live classes and manage studies alongside family or work responsibilities. This model has widened opportunities for homemakers, rural learners and mid-career professionals.
TrainingsKart added that demand is no longer limited to metropolitan centres. Enrolment from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities is increasing steadily, helping extend access to quality higher education across India.
A company spokesperson said online education is reshaping higher learning in India by offering recognised qualifications, flexible learning modes and industry-relevant courses.
