Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday chaired a high-level security review meeting in Bikaner to evaluate security challenges and border management measures in districts located along the Indo-Pakistan border in Rajasthan.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the meeting was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, senior state officials, and District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from the five border districts of Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar and Phalodi. Discussions centred on improving border security through closer coordination between central agencies and the state administration.
During the review, authorities decided to develop a comprehensive 360-degree security framework for each border district. The proposed mechanism aims to integrate local residents, state authorities and multiple security agencies to strengthen border management and surveillance.
Shah directed officials to strictly enforce a zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions, especially within a 15-kilometre radius of the international border, and instructed authorities to remove all unauthorised structures in the area.
The Home Minister also stressed the need for coordinated action involving the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and state agencies to tackle infiltration, drug trafficking, illegal encroachment, terror financing and other cross-border crimes.
He asked district magistrates to take greater responsibility in monitoring financial and legal compliance, including scrutiny of banks, verification of major businesses, investigation into funding patterns, identification of shell companies and mule accounts, detection of fake Aadhaar cards and prevention of smuggling activities.
Shah further instructed officials to make effective use of the ‘1930’ cybercrime helpline for faster response to cyber offences and to ensure proper implementation of the newly introduced criminal laws in the border region.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Vibrant Village Programme-II (VVP-II), with emphasis on improving infrastructure, strengthening governance in border villages, addressing economic offences and ensuring complete coverage of government welfare schemes in these areas.
