President Droupadi Murmu arrives in Hyderabad for winter sojourn

President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday arrived at the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Secunderabad as part of her annual winter sojourn.

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, state ministers and senior officials received the President at the Air Force Station in Hakimpet.

Murmu will stay at Rashtrapati Nilayam till December 22, during which she will carry out official engagements.

On December 19, the President will inaugurate a national conference of chairpersons of public service commissions, being organised by the Telangana Public Service Commission in Hyderabad.

On December 20, she will address a conference titled ‘Timeless Wisdom of Bharat: Pathways of Peace and Progress’, organised by the Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar in Hyderabad to mark its 21st anniversary, according to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The President visits Rashtrapati Nilayam at least once every year, using the stay to conduct official business.

Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad and The Retreat Building in Shimla are the two Presidential Retreats, symbolising the integrative role of the President’s office and the unity of the country across regions and cultures.

Located at Bolarum, Rashtrapati Nilayam was taken over from the Nizam of Hyderabad after Independence and subsequently handed over to the President’s Secretariat.

Constructed in 1860, the single-storey heritage building is spread over 90 acres and comprises 11 rooms, along with facilities such as a dining hall, cinema hall and morning room.
