Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, chairman of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Lucknow after being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection.

According to a medical bulletin issued by Medanta Hospital on Wednesday, the 89-year-old religious leader was brought to the hospital's emergency department at around 1.30 pm on June 29 in an unconscious state.

Following an initial medical evaluation, doctors diagnosed him with a urinary tract infection and shifted him to the ICU for specialised treatment.

The hospital said Mahant Nritya Gopal Das is being treated under the supervision of critical care specialist Dr Dilip and his team. A panel of specialist doctors is continuously monitoring his condition and providing all necessary medical care.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was constituted to oversee the construction and management of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Mahant Nritya Gopal Das serves as its chairman.

His hospitalisation comes ahead of a crucial Trust meeting scheduled for July 6, which is expected to deliberate on developments following the resignations of two senior trustees, Champat Rai and Anil Mishra, amid the controversy surrounding alleged missing donations at the Ram temple.
