Sergey Lavrov on Friday participated in the third plenary session of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, where discussions centred on reforming global governance institutions and strengthening the multilateral system.

Lavrov’s participation came a day after his meeting with Narendra Modi, during which the two leaders reviewed progress in the India-Russia “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” and exchanged views on key geopolitical developments, including the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.

In remarks shared on X, Prime Minister Modi said he appreciated Lavrov’s update on the progress made across multiple areas of bilateral cooperation since the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in New Delhi in December 2025. Modi also reiterated India’s consistent support for resolving international conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi requested Lavrov to convey his warm greetings to Vladimir Putin, reaffirming the importance New Delhi attaches to its longstanding strategic relationship with Moscow.

India has consistently maintained that dialogue and negotiations remain the only sustainable path toward resolving the Ukraine conflict, while also balancing its strategic, economic, and energy interests with Russia.

During the BRICS session, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi also called for urgent reforms of global governance institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council, describing reform as essential for the credibility and survival of the United Nations system.

Araghchi also condemned attacks on civilians and infrastructure in Iran and urged the international community to reject what he termed “double standards” in responding to global conflicts.
