The Supreme Court on Friday indicated that it was likely to grant bail to two accused in the 2020 Delhi riots cases.

A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and PB Varale said it would also examine the Delhi Police’s request seeking reference of a legal question to a larger bench.

The observations came during the hearing of bail pleas filed by Abdul Khalid Saifi and Tasleem Ahmad.

Senior advocate Rebecca John appeared for Saifi, while advocate Mehmood Pracha represented Ahmad.

“Most probably we will consider granting relief. However, we will look into the arguments made on behalf of Delhi Police for reference of question of law to the larger bench,” the bench observed while reserving its verdict on the bail applications.
