Security forces on Saturday carried out a search operation along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after a drone, believed to have come from Pakistan, was spotted briefly entering Indian airspace, officials said.
According to officials, the drone was seen hovering near Chillyari village along the IB for a short duration before returning towards Pakistani territory. The flying object remained over Indian territory for a couple of minutes, triggering an immediate security response.
Following the sighting, joint teams of police and security forces launched a search operation in Chillyari and adjoining areas. The area along the border was thoroughly scanned to rule out the possibility of any airdrop of arms, ammunition or narcotics, officials added.
No suspicious material had been recovered till the last reports, they said.
This was the second such incident reported in the district within two days. On Friday, another drone, also suspected to have originated from Pakistan, was seen hovering briefly over Indian territory near Ratanpur village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district before returning across the border, officials said.
