Thane
The Thane Zilla Parishad has emerged as one of the leading performers in Maharashtra under the state government’s 150-day e-Governance Improvement Programme, an official said on Tuesday.
The results of the initiative, which had been kept on hold due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct during elections, were formally announced on Tuesday.
Along with Thane, the Zilla Parishads of Pune, Sangli, Nagpur and Nashik were recognised for their effective adoption of digital infrastructure and citizen-oriented governance technologies, according to an official release.
Congratulating the awardees, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X, “Hearty congratulations to the Chief Executive Officers of Pune, Sangli, Thane, Nagpur and Nashik Zilla Parishads and their teams for their exemplary performance in the 150-day e-Governance Programme.”
The state government has announced that the top-performing districts will be honoured at a forthcoming state-level function.
Officials said the assessment was carried out on the basis of seven parameters aimed at modernising administrative processes and improving service delivery.
Thane Zilla Parishad’s recognition was attributed to its strong performance in digitising internal approval mechanisms, real-time tracking of development works, effective grievance redressal, and timely delivery of public services.
The district also stood out for its innovative use of artificial intelligence and Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, along with the deployment of official websites and automated WhatsApp chatbots to enhance communication between the administration and rural citizens.
