Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that interest among tourists from across the country in visiting Jammu and Kashmir continues to remain strong, despite the setback caused to the tourism sector by last year’s terror attack in Pahalgam.

Addressing a review meeting on development projects in the Union Territory, Shah said there was a need to step up promotional efforts to showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism potential in other parts of the country.

“The enthusiasm of tourists to visit Jammu and Kashmir has not waned. What is required now is aggressive marketing of the region’s tourist destinations in various states to fully tap the opportunities available here,” he said.

Shah assured that the BJP-led central government would extend full support for initiatives aimed at developing new tourist destinations in the Union Territory.
