The Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) has found a total of 10,889 nomination papers valid for the upcoming village committee (VC) elections in the TTAADC, a senior poll official said on Thursday.
The VC polls are scheduled to be held on September 28. The process of filing nominations began on September 1, while September 8 was the last date for submission and scrutiny of the documents was held on September 9, SEC secretary Anurag Sen said.
The elections will be held in 587 village committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
A total of 10,958 nomination papers from 10,936 candidates were received by the end of the deadline, and of those, 10,889 documents from as many candidates were found to be valid after scrutiny, Sen said.
Of the valid papers, 4,361 were from the Tipra Motha Party, 1,971 from the BJP, 2,456 from the CPI(M), 465 from the Congress, 483 from the IPFT, four from the CPI, besides 1,149 other candidates.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for September 11.

The official said 74 companies of central armed police forces (CAPFs) have been sanctioned for the elections. Of these, 24 companies are already in Tripura, while the remaining personnel will arrive from outside the state well before the polling day.
