On the occasion of World Environment Day, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched 18 Namo Oxygen Parks from the Maidangarhi area in South Delhi on Friday.

The launch aims to strengthen urban greening, improve air quality, and promote community-led environmental stewardship in Delhi.

During the event, the Union minister and the chief minister also planted saplings.

In a statement, Gupta said, "This year, the Delhi government presented a green budget in which 21 per cent of the budget has been marked for green projects. The government has a target to plant 15 lakh plants this year."

She added that the government not only wants to plant trees but is also focusing on protecting them, adding that all government departments have been asked to focus on developing green buildings and protecting trees.

The event also witnessed the release of three documents. They include 'Working Plan Document for the National Capital Territory of Delhi (2026–27 to 2036–37)', a 10-year framework document outlining strategies and targets for environmental governance, conservation, and sustainable development in Delhi.

Another document is 'Delhi Bird Atlas', a compilation of data on Delhi's avifauna, produced through citizen science efforts involving birdwatchers, naturalists, and volunteers across the city.
