Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday asserted that police recruitment drives conducted during the BJP government's tenure have been marked by transparency and fairness, with merit serving as the sole criterion for selection.
Speaking at a ceremony in Lucknow where appointment letters were handed over to 930 newly recruited Grade-A computer operators selected through the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, the chief minister emphasized that an efficient law-and-order system depends on an honest recruitment process and quality training.
Adityanath highlighted the scale of recent recruitment exercises in the state police force. He noted that examinations were recently conducted for nearly 35,000 police constable vacancies, attracting around 28 lakh applicants. Prior to that, recruitment tests were also organized for approximately 41,000 home guard positions.
The chief minister stated that over the past nine years, around 2.15 lakh personnel have been inducted into the police force through various recruitment drives. According to him, these appointments were carried out without any favoritism or discrimination, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.
Underscoring the importance of professional policing, Adityanath said that maintaining public confidence in law enforcement begins with transparent hiring practices and systematic training of personnel.
Reflecting on the state's law-and-order situation before his government came to power, he remarked that conditions were far more challenging. Recalling an incident in Moradabad, he mentioned that a senior IPS officer of DIG rank had once been attacked by a violent mob, illustrating the difficulties faced by law enforcement officials at the time.
"If senior police officers were not secure in those days, one can imagine the plight of ordinary citizens and women," he said, adding that the situation has significantly improved under the current administration.
