Sergio Gor on Tuesday said the United States would work to identify new areas of cooperation with Assam, highlighting the potential for expanding commercial partnerships that could benefit both sides.

Gor was in Guwahati to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who created political history by becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the first non-Congress chief minister to secure a second consecutive term in the state.

Sharing his thoughts on social media after the ceremony, Gor said he was honoured to have been invited to Guwahati for the occasion. He noted that the United States and Assam already share several commercial connections and expressed confidence that under Sarma’s leadership, both sides would be able to identify many more mutually beneficial opportunities in the future.

Along with Sarma, four legislators also took oath as ministers in the new government—Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog from the BJP, Atul Bora of the Asom Gana Parishad, and Charan Boro of the Bodoland People's Front.
