The mother of one of the accused in the Uttam Nagar murder case has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection against the possible demolition of her house, claiming civic authorities may take similar action against their property.

The plea was mentioned before a bench headed by the Chief Justice, where the petitioner informed the court that the house of a co-accused in the case had already been demolished. She argued that there was a strong apprehension that authorities might also demolish her residence.

Taking note of the submission, the court allowed the matter to be mentioned and indicated that it could be taken up for hearing later in the day.

The development comes after a demolition drive carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with the clash in Uttam Nagar in west Delhi during the Holi celebrations, in which a 26-year-old man, Tarun Kumar, was allegedly beaten to death.

Four days after the incident, civic authorities demolished portions of a house linked to the main accused. According to police sources, the demolition targeted encroached parts of a three-storey building as well as some nearby structures said to be illegal.

Officials said the house belonged to Umardeen (49) and his son Muzaffar (25), both of whom are among those accused in the case.

The petition filed in the High Court seeks protection from similar demolition action against the petitioner’s property. The court is expected to hear the matter later on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police said seven more accused have been arrested in the case, while one minor has been apprehended.
