The wife of K B Ganesh Kumar on Tuesday said she will not move forward with her complaint against the Kerala Transport Minister after he admitted his mistake and apologised.

Speaking to a television channel, Bindhu Menon said the minister called her on Tuesday morning and apologised, expressing his willingness to resolve their issues.

“He very emotionally said that a mistake had happened on his part. A lot of mistakes have happened in our years-long marriage, but I never said I am leaving him or will go to the media or take legal steps,” she said.

Menon said her intention was never to damage the reputation of her husband or the government.

“My intention was not to tarnish the image of the government or my husband. He called this morning and apologised and said we can sort out the issue. That is what I was waiting for. I will definitely not go forward with the complaint now. We will resolve it together,” she said.

She added that their 13-year marriage had witnessed several disagreements, but she did not want to end the relationship over the present incident.

Menon described her earlier allegations as an “emotional outburst” after the minister rejected her claims of infidelity and termed her call to the Emergency Response Support System (112) as “madness”.

“We all make mistakes in life. Because he is a minister, everyone came to know what he did. But there is no need for the minister to apologise to the public. If I am the one living with him, he only needs to apologise to me,” she said.

She also appealed to the public not to discuss the matter on social media.

Congress demands minister’s resignation

Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress maintained its demand for Kumar’s resignation.

Sunny Joseph, president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), said the issue could not be dismissed as a mere family matter.

“If the minister does not resign, the chief minister should show the resolve to remove him,” Joseph told reporters in New Delhi.

He also said the government, the chief minister and the ruling Left Democratic Front should clarify their stand on the matter.

Joseph pointed out that when similar allegations surfaced against Ganesh Kumar during the tenure of the United Democratic Front government, he had been forced to resign.

Menon had on Monday levelled allegations of infidelity against the minister after he dismissed rumours circulating on social media.

The Kerala Congress (B) leader had married Menon in 2014 after legally separating from his first wife, Yamini Thankachy. Menon had also claimed she had been living separately for several months due to the minister’s alleged relationships with other women.
